Lots of new investigators... lots of dropped ones. It's a rollercoaster. We also got like 6 Headquarter Referrals from people requesting missionary visits! A few turned into investigators.
One of these referrals is in Petersburg, TX... ever heard of it? Yah, me neither. So we drove about an hour and a half out of lubbock (most of the time on a tiny farm road) to get out to the referral Heather. After a good minute of driving down this dusty old road, we arrived in Petersburg, pop. 1200 lol. We found Heather's house, and she accepted the bible that she had ordered, but had absolutely no interest in talking to us haha.
Something new to me since I've moved to Texas is this whole speaking in tongues thing. People try to speak in tongues all the time here. During the middle of prayers people usually just mumble 'Right on Jesus' or 'Thank you Lord'... but every once in the while you get an investigator (or sometimes a member) that feels the spirit and thinks they oughta start babbling whatever comes to their mind during the prayer. It's kind of obnoxious. The first time somebody did it to me I almost peed my pants it scared me so bad. The prayer went something like, "Dear God, I thank you for the time we had to meet today, and for thABBALABA PHFFFFFBFBFBFBFB LABATSSS TSSS TSS TSSS NAAAAAAABAWABLABABABABABABABAB ABABABABABABAAAAAA!!!! but I'm kinda used to it now.
Speaking and interpreting tongues is a gift from the spirit that can help people understand and speak in foreign languages, usually to help with missionary work, and has NO MEANING if nobody can understand it lol. (1 Cor. 14) Silly Texans
We got invited to one of our investigators churches this Saturday. We went early Saturday morning to the Church on The Rock! We me 'Super Pastor Josh' (That's what the congregation calls him) and we stood up, clapped, put our hands in the air, and praised the Lord! Along with the rest of the congregation (mostly consisting of homeless people). The church on the rock has an outreach program during their services on Saturdays. Basically if you need food, you grab a ticket with a number on the way in, sit through the sermon, and then at the end they call your number and give you food. I sat next to a homeless lady that sang at the top of her lungs the whole time. It was awesome.
We Also got to help out with a stake MTC day, where the stake brought all of the youth and instructed them on different aspects of missionary work. I was in charge of the door approach. It was a ton of fun. It took alllll day long, so the Chic-Fil-A at the end was much appreciated.
Well, not much else is going on here... we're working hard, and still working with a lot of different investigators. The only solid one is Latasha. She can't seem to kick the cigs... so we're working with her really closely.
We do a lot of contacting referrals, and talking to people on the streets when we're not teaching. However, the ward here is AWESOME. We teach way more than we tract which is super nice.
Well, things are peachy, I'm fixin' to go get some lunch, so y'all have a blessed week. #WhileDaringGreatly
