UPDATE:
Halloween was SWEET this year. We suited up the night before Halloween, and drove to the mission home and got to meet as all of the zone leaders/sister training leaders with Elder Foster, a member of the 70. What an amazing man. He taught us, and reviewed some of his ideas with us that he wanted to start implementing over the entire North American Continent through out the church. He showed us some slides, and asked for our opinions, and then we had the opportunity to ask him questions! What an amazing man. All you have to do is talk with him to know that he is ordained of God. He is a MASTER teacher. We spent an hour or so with him at the mission home, ate cookies with the Mission President and his wife (as well as the Fosters) and then drove back home to prep for the next day. We woke up early Halloween morning, and drove to the mission office, to have another meeting with Elder Foster. This meeting was much larger. Half of the mission came (about 100 missionaries) and Elder Foster instructed on a variety of topics. Most of it was about moving the work forward and working with the ward. We ended with lunch, and we were off to another appointment! Halloween night was kinda lame... we just met at the church and played sports.
We had the opportunity to attend a meeting last night for the kickoff of the Lubbock South Plains Nativity that is put on every year. Their website is at www.lubbocknativity.org Every year (for the last 7 or so years) The two stakes here have put on this Nativity. It's four days of live nativities, hundreds of nativities from around the world, live musical performances, and a lot more. It's held at the stake center here, right next to the temple. It's become such a big event for the community that way more non members come than actual members that live here. It's an AMAZING event. Our job as missionaries is to invite investigators, and everyone we meet to the nativity, and then attend the nativity to answer questions about the church. It's a HUGE event and the committee that puts it together is comprised of at least 50 people.
We've been teaching Peggy a lot recently. She still has a bap. date for Nov. 7th, and isn't really progressing. She can't seem to pull herself off of coffee, so it seems that she's making excuses. It's so sad, and it makes things hard for us. We're working with a lot of less actives recently, because we just don't have people to teach! It's such a roller-coaster when it comes to investigators here. One month ago we had over 7 investigators to work with, and now we're down to like 2 that aren't progressing... We're working hard, looking for ways we can stay busy while helping the ward.
We've been doing TONS of service too. Our zone of 11 companionships got over 400 hours of service. We've been working hard at Meals on Wheels, Animal Shelters, Projects around member's homes, and the temple! It's such a blessing to go and serve at the temple. We get to see a side of it that almost nobody else gets to see. This week we went down to the basement and painted some of the walls. We also helped prepare some cabinets that they're planning on moving into some of the upper rooms of the temple.
Ohhhh man, things are always so busy. I feel like we need a p day to prepare for the week and then a rest day to rest for the week! Things are busier than ever administering to the zone... and not to mention training on top of it! My companions definitely help me through it. The more I get to know Elder Sork, the more I begin to realize how much we're alike, and can feed off each other to get the work going. Elder Walker always keeps us on our toes. He's a real humble guy, which makes him easy to train. Elder Walker has been EXHAUSTED lately. We can't go anywhere without him needing fruit snacks, or candy, or something to keep him going! He's slowly making the adjustment. We have to throw him on exchanges with Elders nearby in a bike area when we go to meetings and things. I feel really bad, and to make it worse, whenever he's on exchanges, he gets a good dose of bike riding! He's such a good sport.
Things are busy, and the work is tough as usual. Tough Times don't last Tough People do. #WhileDaringGreatly
