We had a super busy week!
We've got lots of new missionaries in our zone. We have a total of 22 missionaries in our zone, and most of them are fairly young. It's a ton of fun, and we're stoked about all the good missionaries we have working around us.
Service this Week:
Helping Sis. H move: All of the Elders in the zone met together and filled up a HUGE U Haul for this member in the first ward. One of the Elders had worked for a moving company or something, so he was in charge of piecing all of it together, and tetrising it all together. We got it done in just a few hours, and she was stoked to have us. She fed us in return for our service, and it was all good!
Botanical Gardens: Went to the gardens again, and the boss had us till and move brick. We also spend a good amount of time hauling 80 pound bags of concrete up to the top part of the garden. It's really a sweet place. They use it for all sorts of weddings and things. I asked one of the workers, and she said that they're booked for like the next two years on every weekend. They also bring in local bands and have them play in their amphitheater. It's a sweet place.
We've also been helping/teaching a recent convert named Abass Abdalla. He is a refugee from Sudan. He has a super thick accent, and he's super hard to understand, but if you can listen close enough, he has a crazy past. A lot of his family was killed in Darfur, and he had been praying for years and years to find God. He stopped practicing Islam, and studied with the Jehovah's Witnesses, and eventually found the Elders at a bus stop. He gets lots of persecution from other refugees and his family for becoming a Christian. We go and teach him new member lessons. He is awesome.
Also taught our good friend Billy. He's the one that has serious Word of Wisdom problems. He asked us to pray for him to stay away from vodka, and cocaine... crazy guy. We shared with him a few scriptures about repentance, and he committed to get off the vodka. He is such a smart guy, he just needs to get off the coke. He understands scriptures and analogies unlike most members of the church I've met. We're still working with him.
Other investigators have been out of town... we're teaching a lot of random people we find knocking... it's been good.
Friday, we took all three of our district leaders down to Lubbock for the mission's leadership counsel. We received instruction from lots of the leaders, and now we get to bring it back to our zone, and conduct our own training meeting here. It will be tomorrow, and both Elder Holtman and I are instructing.. it's a bit stressful, but that's alright. It'll be good.
Saturday and Sunday we spent a lot of time knocking. I've come to love knocking. I like teaching more, but knocking is always super exciting.
